Our Team — MattressNut Editorial, Lab, and Medical Review

Meet the people behind MattressNut. Our reviews are written by sleep enthusiasts who actually test every mattress, pillow, and supplement we recommend. Our health content is reviewed by a licensed chiropractor.

Our editorial team

Romain Renard — Editor-in-Chief

Founder and lead reviewer

Romain founded MattressNut in 2022 after spending two years and four mattresses trying to fix his own chronic back pain. Since then, he has overseen testing of 400+ mattresses, 150+ pillows, and 60+ sleep supplements in our in-house lab. He sets the 27-criteria scorecard our reviewers use and ultimately signs off on every ranking on the site.

Focus: mattress reviews, brand comparisons, grounding products, buying guides.

Dr. Michelle Aldridge, DC — Chiropractor and Medical Reviewer

Medical consultant, doctor of chiropractic

Dr. Aldridge reviews all health-related claims on MattressNut. She has 12 years of clinical practice specializing in posture, spinal alignment, and sleep-related musculoskeletal conditions. She flags unsupported health claims in every review draft and requires primary-source citations for back pain, sciatica, scoliosis, and arthritis content.

Reviews: all back pain, neck pain, sciatica, scoliosis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and pregnancy-related content.

Sarah Torres — Senior Reviewer (Sleep Supplements)

Nutritional sciences background, 6 years testing

Sarah leads our sleep supplement and natural remedy testing. She holds a BS in nutritional sciences and has spent 6 years working with supplement brands, including 2 years in QA for a melatonin-free formulation that is now sold under 3 different labels. For our supplement reviews, she cross-references peer-reviewed literature and manufacturer spec sheets before we run our own 30-night consumption trials.

Focus: NooCube Sleep, magnesium, melatonin alternatives, natural sleep aid comparisons.

Marcus Chen — Testing Lab Lead

Lab operations, instrumentation

Marcus runs the MattressNut Lab day-to-day. He calibrates our pressure-mapping pad, IR thermometer, and accelerometer setup, and he personally performs the objective measurements on every mattress that enters our review pipeline. Background: mechanical engineering, 4 years of testing experience.

Focus: all quantitative mattress measurements, pressure mapping, temperature logging, motion transfer tests.

Our sleep-tester panel

We run every major mattress review through three sleepers drawn from a rotating panel of 20. Panel composition covers the six most common sleep profiles:

  • Side sleepers (40% of Americans)
  • Back sleepers (30%)
  • Stomach sleepers (10%)
  • Combination sleepers (20%)
  • Hot sleepers (various positions, added as supplementary testers for temperature-specific reviews)
  • Heavy sleepers (230+ lb, added for heavy-duty reviews)

Each tester logs Oura or Whoop sleep data every night for the duration of their testing cycle. We aggregate subjective ratings (1-10 scale) alongside the objective lab measurements.

Our editorial process

  1. Product selection: we choose products based on market reach + reader demand, not on affiliate program availability. (Several of our top picks pay us 0 commission; several of our non-picks pay 25%+.)
  2. Lab testing: Marcus runs the 27-criteria scorecard. Data is logged.
  3. Panel testing: 3 testers per product, minimum 30 nights.
  4. Draft review: Romain writes the first draft based on aggregated lab + panel data.
  5. Medical review: if health claims are involved, Dr. Aldridge reviews and approves or flags.
  6. Supplements: Sarah reviews supplement claims and trial results.
  7. Final edit: Romain approves. Affiliate links are added. FTC disclosure is added.
  8. Annual update: every actively-ranked review is revisited at least once per year for pricing, product-change, and long-term data updates.

What we do not do

  • We do not take money to boost a product's ranking.
  • We do not anonymize our reviewers. Every article has a named author with a visible bio.
  • We do not write "sponsored content" that reads like a review. If a brand pays us for content, that content is clearly labeled "Sponsored."
  • We do not delete negative findings from reviews after publication. We update, we do not hide.
