Why the AS2 is the mattress to buy in this matchup

The AS2 is not the winner by default — it earns it. Amerisleep's own mattress page badges it as the Best Value in its line-up, and the terms behind that badge are the ones you care about: a 100-night trial, a 30-night minimum before you can send it back, free pickup and a full refund, and 20 years of warranty written into a document you can read before you order.

The price is the part I would act on: every AS2 size is currently shown $500 off, which lands a Queen at $1,049 against $1,549 regular. That is a real mattress with a published return path and a repair-or-replace warranty behind it. The other side of this table has no price at all, because there is nothing to price.

Can you still buy the Emma CliMax Hybrid?

No — Emma’s U.S. store no longer offers the CliMax Hybrid. The old product address now returns Emma’s “Oops! Looks like this page is on snooze” page, and the Emma U.S. homepage says “Thank You U.S!” and that its products are on clearance until stock runs out. There is no current CliMax price or checkout available from Emma, so this is an availability verdict, not a claim that every previous owner’s warranty has ended.

What each mattress is made of

Amerisleep AS2: three layers inside a 12-inch profile. The comfort layer is Bio-Pur, the plant-based open-cell foam Amerisleep uses instead of traditional memory foam; under it sits HIVE, Amerisleep's zoned support design, which is built to carry more through the hips and less under the shoulders; the base is a durable support foam. Amerisleep lists the mattress as fiberglass-free and its foams as CertiPUR-US certified and low in VOCs — an emissions and content standard for the foam, not a comfort verdict. The tag says made in the USA of US and imported components, with the covers sewn in Canada.

Amerisleep also says the AS2 pairs with an adjustable base, and its warranty sets the foundation rules behind any claim: slats no more than 2.75 inches apart, and a box spring needs a solid plywood layer at least 0.75 inch thick. Emma CliMax Hybrid: no height, no layer count, no cover material, no firmness rating — Emma publishes none of it, because the listing that carried those details is gone. The details went with the listing, so anything you decide about the CliMax today has to rest on availability, trial and warranty, which both brands still publish.

Firmness and feel by sleep position

Amerisleep rates the AS2 6 out of 10, medium-firm, and its own page recommends it for back, stomach and side sleepers. Use that rating as a starting point, not a verdict — here is how I would read it.

• Side sleepers: the AS2 is the firmer end of comfortable for a side sleeper. If you wake with a dead shoulder, you will likely want more give than this; I would look at a softer model rather than fight the AS2.
• Back sleepers: this is the AS2's home ground. The HIVE zoning is there to keep your hips from sinking while your shoulders settle, which is exactly what a back sleeper asks of a mattress.
• Stomach sleepers: a medium-firm surface keeps your spine closer to level than a soft one, and Amerisleep lists stomach sleeping among the positions it recommends for this model.
• Combination sleepers: you will feel the foam respond rather than bounce you, so turning over takes a little effort compared with a coil bed. Still the most predictable of the two names here.

There is no CliMax column in this section. Emma publishes no firmness rating for the model today, so there is nothing to weigh the AS2's 6 against.

Cooling, edges and motion

Amerisleep describes the AS2's cooling as a combination of open-cell Bio-Pur and its Refresh cover, and it puts a number on that cover: about 7 degrees cooler over an eight-hour night, which the brand states is compared with a traditional 100% polyester cover.

Two things Amerisleep does not publish for the AS2: a motion-transfer figure and an edge-support figure. So if a partner rolling over at 3 a.m. is your deciding issue, or you sleep right on the edge, you are buying on construction rather than on data. Emma publishes no cooling, edge or motion claim for the CliMax Hybrid either — there is no product page left to carry one.

Amerisleep lists the AS2 Queen at $1,549 regular / $1,049 sale, and every size is currently shown at the same $500 off. Promotions can change the checkout total, so treat the sale column as today's number. Emma has no prices to put beside these — the model is not for sale.

Trial, returns, warranty and delivery

Amerisleep AS2: the trial runs 100 nights from delivery, and Amerisleep asks you to sleep on it at least 30 nights before you call — its wording is that you should allow a month to adjust, then call within the 100. Returns are free with free pickup and a full refund. The warranty runs 20 years on the original purchaser in the US and Canada: the first ten years are full replacement, with repairs or replacement at Amerisleep's choice and transportation and labour excluded; years 11–20 are prorated at 50% of the original purchase price plus shipping and labour. A qualifying sag is an indentation greater than 1.5 inches, and the claim depends on the right foundation: slats no more than 2.75 inches apart, plywood of at least 0.75 inch over a box spring, no stains, and the law tag left on.

Delivery: Amerisleep ships free in the contiguous US. Its AS2 page shows 2–7 business days to ship, while its customer-service page puts mattresses at 3–7 working days to ship plus about 1–5 working days in transit — two official pages, two numbers, so plan on the longer one.

Emma CliMax Hybrid: you cannot start a trial without a mattress to buy, but Emma's US FAQ still writes the terms it once sold under, and they matter if you already own one. Emma states a 100-night trial with a 30-night minimum, a full refund to the original payment method within 5–10 business days of confirming the return, and a mattress in donable condition — no stains, tears or odours. The 10-year warranty starts on delivery and covers faulty materials and manufacture; Emma says it replaces with the same model if it is still available, otherwise a current model of equal or greater value, or a refund. One caution: that same FAQ answers with 100 nights in its trial question and shows 365 nights elsewhere on the page, so confirm which one applies to your order before you count on a number.

Who should buy each mattress?

• AS2 pros: 12 inches of zoned all-foam, fiberglass-free and CertiPUR-US certified foams, a 100-night trial with free pickup, a 20-year warranty, and an in-stock price of $1,049 for a Queen.
• AS2 trade-offs: one fixed firmness that is at the firm end for side sleepers, no coil bounce, and a foundation rule you have to follow or the warranty is exposed.
• CliMax Hybrid: no purchase to make. Its remaining value is for existing owners — Emma still publishes warranty terms for mattresses bought in the US through its own site.

Choose the Amerisleep AS2 if you want a medium-firm bed with real zoning under your hips; you sleep on your back or stomach and want support without a plank; you want a trial you can actually use, with no return fee; or you want the paperwork — price, trial, warranty, foundation rules — in front of you before you pay. It is $1,049 for a Queen at the current sale price, with free returns.

Choose something other than the AS2 if you sleep on your side and want to sink in, if you want the push-back of coils, or if you specifically want a flippable firm/extra-firm mattress — none of which this mattress is, and none of which the CliMax can offer you either, since it is no longer sold.

Who should NOT buy the AS2: skip it if you need a plush surface, if you are over the firm end of medium-firm already, or if you will not be able to provide a foundation that meets the slat and plywood rules — the warranty is written against them.
